[Expert] Replacement printer not working (MDV 2006)

My wife's HP PSC 2355 printer/scanner/copier developed a fault and was 
replaced by HP with another PSC 2355. She plugged it in and expected it to 
work as it is identical to the previously installed and working printer. 
However it will copy (standalone) , it will scan but it will not print. I 
have to go to her workplace to sort this out so have not actually looked into 
the problem yet.  I suspect that it is simply that something is stuck in the 
printer queue due to the fault developing during printing but before I spend 
my Sunday morning tearing my hair out, has anyone got any other thoughts ?
