Ahá, you were right, Moreno, this solved the stop problem mounting the local 
filesystems and also the shutdown problem.

Only remains the problem of 'encouraging' the startup. This is the grub stanza 
that I use to start cooker:

(First line)
title Mandriva Linux release 2009.0 (Cooker) 2.6.26
(Second line)
kernel (hd0,8)/boot/vmlinuz-2.6.26-desktop-0.rc4.1mnb 
BOOT_IMAGE=Cooker_Desktop_2626 root=/dev/sda9 resume=/dev/sda7 splash=silent

(Third line)
