If you have proper desktop-common-uitls updated and xinitrc: installed package kdm -> prefered installed package kdm3 -> will start only if you don't have kdm from kde4 installed
Dm login managers are not handled by PATh profile script and yes, is working very well

Hello,
indeed, that's my mistake, I thought only kde3 rpm needed to be upgraded. I installed latest xinitrc and kdm is starting fine again.
thanks and sorry for the noise, should have updated before.

A workaround is to add the following line to your .bash_profile
export XDG_DATA_DIRS=/usr/share:/usr/local/share:$XDG_DATA_DIRS
or you can muck with the scripts in /etc/profile.d

no need update your cooker and this should be ok
I had the same problem yesterday after upgrading my 'old' kde3 in /usr to the new one located in /opt.
Although the rpm I used are 3.5.9-42, I add this problem too and the solution was to modify 91kde3.sh as described above.
Am I missing a rpm that would handle this correctly ?
Nicolas
it will be uploaded soon
OK, thanks.
By the way, the PATH set in 91kde3.sh doesn't seem to work too.
When I boot, kdm can't start, because /opt/kde3/bin is not in the PATH (I agree it should be according to the script, but sthg must overwrite it).
Solution is too log as root in the console, add /opt/kde3/bin to PATH and run 'kdm'.
