There's nothing todo with path

If you have proper desktop-common-uitls updated and xinitrc:
installed package kdm -> prefered
installed package kdm3 -> will start only if you don't have kdm from kde4 
installed

Dm login managers are not handled by PATh profile script and yes, is working 
very well
