Which directory is used depends on which kdm (kdm3 or kdm4) is being 
used. I am using kdm4 which is storing its session list in 
/usr/share/X11/wmsession.d, and as I don't have kdm3 installed directory 
/opt/kde3/share/apps/kdm doesn't exist on my system.
I also have both kde3 and kde4 in the session list in kdm4.
