The last kde3 stuff to fix  is the desktop files ( as pointed by thierry ).

On Kdm,  kde launch kde4 now you are right and this is wanted,  but when you 
install kde3 you should see a kde3 entry, do you have  
/usr/share/X11/wmsession.d/05KDE3  file installed ?
