Using dd to do the copy of the large file caused me another problem. I
don't know whether it was dd or the fact that I forcibly disconnected
the flashdisk as the only way of interrupting the process. The issue I
have was that the entire contents of the flashdisk were wiped with some
of the iso data being written the flashdisk, and the label of the
flashdisk was changed to the name of the iso I was trying to copy. Also
even though linux could read the disk and believed it was vfat format,
windows would not touch it, complaining that it was not formatted.
Well, that's interesting, but irrelevant. Reformat the flashdisk and retry the test with dd.
