When I do a normal install of the kernel-server with 'rpm -ivh', this kernel
fails to boot for me.

I see a partial dmesg ending with:

Loading piix module
Loading ide_generic module
ide0: I/O resource 0x3F6-0x3F6 not free.
ide0: ports already in use, skipping probe
ide1: I/O resource 0x376-0x376 not free.

noresume passed, not resuming ...
Creating root device.

Setting up other filesystems.

My hardware requires the ata_piix module:
lspcidrake -v |grep piix:
ata_piix : Intel Corporation|82801EB/ER (ICH5/ICH5R) IDE Controller
[STORAGE_IDE] (vendor:8086 device:24db subv:1043 subd:80a6

but I have no pata/sata disks, only IDE disks.

When I ran mkinitrd with --preload modules ide_generic, ide_disk and
ide_core, the new kernel does boot for me, although dmesg does show some
errors.

Please let me know if I should post it to Bugzilla

Cheers,
=Dick Gevers=
