I've tested this as well. Added /usr/in/compiz-manager to kcontrol ->
KDE componants -> session management -> Applications not to be
restored and it seems to work well. No problem with compiz until now
(for a few days).

I'm running :
$ rpm -q compiz-fusion
compiz-fusion-2008.1-1mdv2008.1

Colin, just a suggestion, I know you hate it, but I suggest you
install KDE just to test stuff with compiz-fusion... It seems desktop
environments don't react the same way.
