      Distribution: cooker
Summary: kdeprint cannot parse ppd files
           Product: kdebase-progs
           Version: 3.5.4-35mdv2007.0
          Platform: All
            Status: NEW
          Severity: normal
          Priority: normal
         Component: program
        AssignedTo: kde@mandriva.com
        ReportedBy: danny@mailmij.org

It looks as if kups is completely broken. I try to install a driver for a
brother HL5070DN. there
are about 3 different drivers in the list that I can choose (5070N(I choose the
recommended
foomatic entry), 5070DN Brscript3, and 5070DN BR-script3J, the last one is
probably best as
this printer is a japanese one).

However, all drivers cause errors. either claiming that the driver doesn't
exist, or that there are
syntax errors in the ppd (like:
/usr/share/foomatic/db/source/PPD/Brother/BR5070DN_GPL.ppd.gz(line 1): syntax
error,
unexpected TRANSLATION)
What is worse...the error is different each time I try!
And it doesn't seem specific to the brother drivers, every driver generates an
error.

Console barks:
kdeprint: WARNING: PPD syntax error, PPD parse failed

With 2006 these drivers work ok.

Till, I CC you perhaps you have any idea. I still haven't succeeded on setting
up a printer with
2007. kups can do a scan of given ip range, so it can find my printer, whereas
drakprinter
cannot because the subnet is too big, as you know, this feature would be nice
to have in the
draktool I think)

Danny
