Well, everything laptop related is getting more and more and more complicated: - disk spindown - kernel laptop mode - readahed - battery monitoring - suspend to disk - suspend to ram - suspend on low battery - suspend on lid close - powersaving for cpu - powersaving for hd - powersaving for wireless - reconnect wireless after suspend And we have a lot of different tools and different ways to control all this: - laptop-mode-tools - cpufreqd - acpitool - cpudyn - pmscripts - powersave - gnome power monitor - probably a KDE one too - probably a lot more I haven't thought of yet The problem is: - most are poorly documented - some rely on others, some require others, some conflict with others - interdependecies are poorly documented This leads to two problems: - most of us can barely figure out how to get a laptop working with good power management - converts from other distros and newbies probably cannot at all So, maybe someone can sit down, compare all the tools, decide on which ones will be official (and installed by drakx on laptops), and make sure no default tools require a backend that conflicts with the official backend. And then document it all. I'd try to take this on, but I'm in the middle of the most insanely difficult exams I've ever written. Austin
