------- Comment #1 from oblin@mandriva.com 2005-08-31 19:50 -------
The kernel driver is a bit buggy.
It calls directly /sbin/hotplug, instead of using the generic way (which uses
the value from /proc/sys/kernel/hotplug).
Since we've dropped hotplug in favor of udev, this can be somewhat buggy.
Is it better if you restart the wlan service once your card is plugged?
BTW, if you want to use WEP, make sure it is configured correctly in /etc/wlan/
(drakconnect handles that), it doesn't work with iwconfig.

description:
DrakConnect detects and configures my Syntax USB-400 NIC. prism2-utils is
installed and prism2_usb is loaded successfully, but the NIC won't even turn on.
ifcfg-wlan0 reports the MAC address as zeros. If I do a "wlanctl-ng wlan0
lnxreq_ifstate ifstate=enable" then it seems to wake up, but then a "ifup wlan0"
rejects the MAC. I then correct the MAC in ifcfg-wlan0, but a "ifup wlan0" then
reports that it cannot set any settings, such as

Error for wireless request "Set ESSID" (8B1A) :
SET failed on device wlan0 ; Operation not supported.

Now wlanfe _almost_ works. It also needs "wlanctl-ng wlan0 lnxreq_ifstate
ifstate=enable" to do anything, but it least turns the NIC on and tries to
connect to my network. (WEP doesn't work, and going open works but doesn't get
an ip from DHCP.)

I grepped "usb" from messages:

Aug 31 10:29:48 tecra kernel: prism2usb_init: dev_info is: prism2_usb
Aug 31 10:29:48 tecra kernel: usbcore: registered new driver prism2_usb
Aug 31 10:31:06 tecra drakconnect[4179]: No settings found for driver
"prism2_usb" in category "wireless"
Aug 31 10:50:15 tecra drakconnect[4179]: adding alias wlan0 to prism2_usb

syslog says about the same thing.

Let me know what else I need to report.
