I did a cdrom install of 8.2 choosing the 2.4 kernel. The mouse(trackpad) is there for the graphical installation, however, when I boot the new system, gpm says "oops, can't open mouse /dev/adbmouse does not exist" which is very confusing to me, since it's there (ls -l /dev/adbmouse lists the device nicely) and actually matches the devices.txt file (major & minor numbers) in the kernel documentation. In the XFree86.0.log file, there is another message about not finding /dev/adbmouse, in this case, an xopenserial message which kills the X server in an unfriendly black screen sort of way. I've checked the boot log, and there it is, adb has been scanned with the trackpad found at address 3 handler 4, which I checked with mousemode. So, the kernel knows about the trackpad, but it doesn't seem to be telling anybody about it. Anybody seen this problem before? There's still a few things I can look at, but the list is getting short and not too many clues have arisen. Dan
