This problem seems to have sorted itself out. I rebooted once more (a cold 
reboot) and it works. OTOH, it seems like the problems 2.6 kernel had with 
i810 soundcards hasn't gone away. Plus, there is no gui for configuring ISDN 
cards.

Any comments on the last two points?

I can't wait for trying out the AMD64 release of Mandrake Linux v10.
