============================================================================

1. Hardware

   - Serial ATA support

Promise & VIA Serial ATA are supported through the libata based
kernel drivers. Only software RAID configurations are supported
so far. There is also experimental support for Silicom Image SATA
     controllers.

Note that only the following chipsets have been tested:
     Promise PDC20376, VIA 8237.

   - ATI graphics card

ATI Radeon cards will work with Mandrake Linux XFree86 4.3 server
with "radeon" driver, but there is no 3D acceleration available
     for any R300+ based cards.

Note that only the following cards have been tested:
     ATI Radeon 9000, 9600 (laptops), 9700.

So far, ATI does not provide proprietary drivers for Linux AMD64
     at this time.

   - NVIDIA graphics card

If you don't use retail versions of Mandrake Linux, you will have
to download NVIDIA drivers version 5332 at least. Note that
Mandrake Linux for AMD64 is NPTL capable, so you also have to
select the "TLS" type of GLX libraries.

If you are not using Mandrake Linux supported kernels and you
have troubles getting the drivers to work, you may have to edit
"/etc/X11/XF86Config-4" and experiment with the "NvAgp" option.

   - BIOS updates

The following table lists the minimal BIOS requirements to get
     the system working properly.

     ASUS SK8N 1002 (1003+ for Athlon 64 FX owners)
     Rioworks HDMA 1.72
     MSI K8T Neo (MS-6702)	1.2

If you get kernel panics during installation, please try to boot
with "idle=poll". If that works for you, contact your vendor for
     a BIOS update.

   - Notebooks

Acer Aspire 1500 series notebook needs to boot with
idle=poll. There is no BIOS update available at this time.

Packard Bell notebook was known to work with Mandrake Linux
9.2. It has not been tested with Mandrake Linux 10.0 yet.

Mitac notebooks need "acpi=on" to get PCMCIA slots working.

2. Software

   - 3D acceleration & 32-bit applications

Mandrake Linux kernels 2.6.3 and XFree86 4.3 servers provide a
thunking layer allowing 32-bit OpenGL applications to work on
     XFree86 supported ATI Radeon cards.

Note that only the following cards have been tested with 32-bit
     GL acceleration: ATI Radeon 9000.
