This indeed helps, thanks. It will help me by not having to keep the PS/2 keybord to do installs.

But the installed 9.2 rc1 amd64 boots without problems with the same BIOS settings. Either the installed kernel always runs with idle=poll (which would be a bug) or something with the idle loop is different in that kernel.
