Just because I like replying to myself...

By disabling IOMMU support, I was able to compile agpgart as a module, 
and add 'AMD Opteron/ATHlon 64 on-CPU GART support'.   NvAGP still 
gives me '(WW) NVIDIA(0): Failed to verify AGP usage', so I've pretty 
much resigned myself to believing that it's the chipset on the card 
not being supported by the NVidia Drivers (I guess the logical thing 
for me to do would be put in an older NVidia card, and see what 
happens, but damn it Jim, I'm a hack, not a Vulcan)  agpgart loads as 
8x AGP, but then promptly locks the system up.   Non-stop fun and 
excitement.....
