Hello,

Recently I have started experiencing lockups on my system. It seems to be a fairly recent problem : the box is less than 2 months old and the problems have probably started two weeks ago.

It seems to happen with a low load (10%) or when Mozilla is loading a slashdot page (which is not a low load...)

Although the system memory test reports no error, I have reduced the frequency of the DDR to 333MHz but the system crashed anyway. Since I am unable to run memtest86, it is impossible to rule out a memory problem.

Also, it could be the Nvidia drivers and a combination of motherboard/graphics card incompatibilities (MSI K8T Neo and Asus Geforce FX5600). But since on most crashes the only graphics activity was the blinking of the mouse cursor, this seems pretty unlikely, don't you think.

It could be a problem of heat, but after a lockup I checked that all fans were working and the air was not hot. Of course the sensors on the motherboard could very well report bad values and the CPU/Motherboard could then decide to stop.

Could anybody point me to tools available for Mandrake 9.2R1 for AMD64 that would allow me to get better diagnostics :
- read the temperatures from the motherboard in Linux
- check the memory (did somebody get memtest86 to work on a MSI K8T Neo ?)
- get a crash dump of the system (?)

thanks for your attention, any help will be appreciated.

P.O. Gaillard
