I believe my mobo is the same, tho I can't keep track of the names and go with the number, s2885. Here also a gig of RAM (2x512M, PC3200 ECC Registered), 100 gig and 36 gig drives, but running dual 242s. I've had absolutely NO problems with responsiveness, compiling or not (except that the onboard sound tends occasionally to lock up the system so hard even the magic SRQ keys don't work). I've been VERY happy with the responsiveness, as that's one reason I got a dual CPU system this time. (After having been thrilled with my upgrade to the original Athlon 500MHz, I was rather unimpressed when I upgraded to an Athlon-C 1.2G, and decided what I really needed was a dual processor system. This time I'd decided to get one, and the only question was whether I was going to go 32-bit or 64-bit Opteron. I went with the Opteron. The dual CPU setup seems to give me exactly what I expected it to -- responsiveness even under heavy load on BOTH CPUs, tho I've found Opterons still a bit bleeding edge with some unworked around bugs like the sound above, and less working software to choose from, but that was expected and deliberately chosen as I both wanted to show my support for AMD's design choices here, and grow with the architecture.) I'm still running the MP kernel from Mdk-9.2-amd64-rc1, however. If you have already deployed a 2.6 test kernel, perhaps it's a bug with it, or if you are running a self-compiled 2.4, maybe you missed something you needed in the config. -- Duncan - List replies preferred.
